Cesar literally playing with fire. Fire is one of his big fascinations, and he welcomes stormy nights when the power goes out lots of candles). When I was young I did not get much experience with fire. Once, I set a paper tissue on fire (I was playing in secret, I was not to ever get close to fire), freaked out and threw the tissue in the garbage bin. Cause you know, the garbage bin is essentially a black hole and whatever you throw in there is just ‘gone’. My mother noticed my awkward walk away from the bin and asked what I threw into it. “Nothing!!“ I exclaimed, cause I knew I wasn’t supposed to play with fire and if I say ‘a flaming tissue’ that would have been total admittance of my disobedience. Luckily, she checked the bin and got to put the fire out… Having a little one now myself, we let him play with fire and explore the limits he is comfortable with (which goes waaaay beyond my own limit!!!). We provide him a safe space and explain what could happen and what to do if it happens. It’s not always easy for me, but I remind myself of my own mistakes and what I am in the long run preventing.
What are your kids up to that can raise the hairs on your neck, and move yourself to stay cool and work through your own fears?
